Clopay roller replacement in Ventura typically runs $110 – $220 installed, and we carry the rollers on the truck. Most replacements are done same-day, usually in under an hour. You’ll know a roller has failed when the door starts jerking on its way up, makes a grinding or squealing racket, or visibly tilts in the track. Left alone, a dead roller drags the door out of alignment, which then chews up the hinges and the track itself.
Here’s the reality of it: those little wheels bolted to the sides of your door take every ounce of weight and every cycle of movement. In Ventura’s salt air near the harbor or the dust that blows through the East End, they wear faster than most homeowners expect. We replace them constantly, and it’s one of the cheaper repairs on the door when you catch it early.
Which Clopay Models This Applies To
We service roller replacement on the full Clopay residential lineup you’re likely to own in Ventura: the Classic, Gallery, Coachman, Bridgeport, and the newer Canyon Ridge series. The compatibility gotcha most owners don’t know: Clopay doors built before roughly 2010 often use a 7/16-inch stem roller, while newer models and anything upgraded for a heavier door use an 11/16-inch stem. Pull an old roller out and measure the stem length before you order anything online. If you buy the wrong stem length, the roller binds against the hinge and the door runs rough from day one.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for Clopay specifically: Clopay sells their own replacement rollers, but for a standard 2-inch nylon roller, a quality aftermarket equivalent like a DURA-LIFT or a heavy-gauge 6200ZZ-bearing roller is functionally identical and often lasts longer. Where we always recommend OEM is on the hinge-and-roller assemblies or anything on a high-cycle commercial rated door. We’ll tell you straight which is worth paying for and which is just brand-tax.
We’re an independent service company in Ventura, not affiliated with Clopay, but we’re factory-trained on their product line. Aaron Teague and the crew have been running jobs on Clopay doors out here from Midtown to the Harbor for years, so the series quirks are familiar ground.

Signs Your Clopay Roller Replacement Is Failing
- A grinding or chattering sound when the door moves. This is the classic sign that a roller bearing has gone dry or the ball bearings inside have flattened. If you hear a metal-whisk sound instead, the roller has stopped spinning entirely and is dragging flat along the track.
- The door shudders or jerks mid-travel. One or more rollers are intermittently binding, making the door momentarily lift on one side then drop. That jerking isn’t harmless – it wears out the opener’s gear and stress-fractures the top panel over time.
- The door sits slightly tilted or warped in the tracks when closed. Look at the gap under the door when it’s fully down. Uneven means a roller has seized or a roller stem has snapped, and the door is now hanging partially on the track itself.
- You see visible flat spots, cracks, or missing chunks on the nylon wheel. Once the nylon tire splits or chunks off, the wheel is metal-on-metal against the track. Every cycle scrapes a little more metal away.
- One section of the door visibly wobbles as it passes a certain point. That’s the roller at that point, usually off its bearing truck or bent from an impact. A wobble at mid-height is something you can literally stand and point at. Don’t ignore it – it’s telling you where the failure lives.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Ventura, a Clopay roller replacement runs $110 – $220 installed. The lower end of that range covers a standard 2-inch nylon roller set on a single panel section, maybe a pair of rollers. The higher end covers upgrading to heavy-duty steel-bearing nylon rollers with sealed bearings, or replacing a full set across the whole door. We don’t hide the math: you see the per-roller cost, the part number, and the labor broken out on the written quote before any wrench comes out.
What drives the range: the number of rollers being replaced, the roller spec (standard vs heavy-duty vs high-cycle commercial), and whether you’ve got a single seized roller or a full set of ten or more that have reached end of life together. We’ll show you the bad roller before we replace it. If it failed early because the door itself is out of balance, we’ll tell you that too rather than sell you rollers that will fail again in a year.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect a Clopay roller from the inside of the garage without touching a tool. Look at each wheel. If you see flat spots, wobbles, cracks, or a gap where the nylon tire should be, that roller is done. What you shouldn’t do is try to pop a roller out of the bottom bracket or replace a roller on a door with a torsion spring – the tension in that system is serious. There’s a reason the bottom-roller swap is the most common garage-door DIY injury. You’re working with a loaded torsion spring inches from your hands and face.
Our recommendation in Ventura: if it’s one visibly shot roller, call us. Aaron’s crew carries full-size roller sets on the truck, and the whole swap usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. Call (559) 239-8293 and tell us the model and what you’re seeing. We’ll give you a real price range over the phone, and the written quote before we start is the exact number you pay.
FAQs
Most standard Clopay rollers last 7 – 10 years under normal residential use in Ventura’s climate, but doors near the harbor or with high daily cycle counts (think 5 – 6 open/close cycles per day) can wear a standard roller out in 5 – 6 years. Sealed-bearing rollers add 2 – 4 years to that.
No. A roller is a sealed unit – the wheel, bearing, and stem are one assembly. Once the bearing dries out or the nylon tire breaks down, the only correct fix is to replace the entire roller. We don’t try to grease a dead bearing or sand down a flat-spotted wheel. It just makes the door worse.
A standard roller replacement on one panel section takes 30 – 45 minutes, and a full set on the whole door usually takes an hour to 90 minutes. We do it same-day in most of Ventura because the parts are already on our truck.
Yes. We keep 2-inch nylon rollers, heavy-duty sealed-bearing rollers, and both short and long stem sizes stocked for most Clopay models plus LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie doors. If we run into an oddball spec, it’s a one-day parts run and we’re back out.
